Life Worth Living

27 March 2026

Sutton Winter Night Shelter ’26 has closed its doors for the year. As we reflect on the privilege of running this safe and welcoming refuge for individuals experiencing homelessness, we’re so thankful to all our 77 volunteers who helped to make it all possible.

The majority of these volunteers were individuals from churches around Sutton that came together – inspired by their Christian faith – and took on roles as venue leaders, cooks, hosts, overnight sleepers, and transportation carriers.

A total of 528 shifts were completed over 8 weeks (55 nights) to serve our 6 guests. Out of these 6 guests, 5 were helped into accomodation through the work of our Resettlement Worker, while 1 guest with No Recourse to Public Funds has received support with his immigration process, presenting him with the opportunity for a better life.

Here is some feedback from one of our guests that touched us immensely and served as a wonderful reminder of the heart behind the Winter Night Shelter:

"I [want to] thank all the volunteers for their spiritual and emotional support. For thinking so much of me, I can’t imagine how much love and compassion I received from all of you. I am very grateful. I will never forget the sacrifices you put to make me have a place again... You all make me feel loved, felt good and better you make life worth living for me again".

A Thank You Evening was put together on Wednesday 25th March 2026 to celebrate our wonderful volunteers and a successfully completed Winter Shelter.
